Should you be tracking your GCI or profit?

  • You may prefer GCI, but that number is making you look better than you are. I’d actually go so far as to say that GCI is a meaningless number - what about your expenses?

  • Profit is a much truer representation of what your business is actually worth. Knowing how your expenses affect your bottom line gives you a much clearer picture of your business.

  • Knowing how much your business is actually worth will help you make better decisions in the future. How will you know when it’s safe to expand if all you track is GCI?
